I believe that a student should be recognized as a whole person. I recognize that every child comes from a different background and home life. With this every student will have different learning styles because of their background. I want my students to absorb their material and be able to relate it to their lives. Through my student teaching I have developed solid relationships with my students that have been able to improve my teaching and their learning in the classroom. Throughout my teaching I will develop relationships with my students that will help them know that I understand them as a person emotionally, socially, and academically.

While writing lesson plans I am always thinking about how I can engage every student. In the lesson below, I was able to key in on differentiating my instruction with my class at a Title 1 school. This lesson directly intrigued everyone in the class because it was relatable and at their grade level reading and comprehension wise. I was able to assess the class before the lesson to see where there might be gaps in their learning of the subject matter I would be teaching. I chose an article that would relate to the students and a majority of their cultures. I think that it would be a good lesson to teach in any classroom for students to learn about a different culture and it was good for the students that are part of that culture because they were able to relate and also teach their classmates at moments. I was able to bring in their prior knowledge of the subject at hand and integrate a literacy lesson through it. This lesson was developmentally appropriate for my students while challenging them to grow socially and cognitively. The lesson included partner work so that every students needs were met for their understanding of the material.
